MABLE STEWART

Mable Delois Stewart was born on April 25, 1935, to Russell and Mable (Gouldsby) Prim in Hennessey, Okla. She was the second born of three children.

Her parents, as well as her sister, Helois; her brother, Elton; and her grandson, Julian preceded her in death.

In 1946, Mable and her family moved from Hennessey to El Reno, Okla., where at an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at the Mount Moriah Baptist church, under the leadership of Pastor Maseo McDaniel. Her love for the Lord grew from there.

In El Reno, she graduated from Booker T. High school where she was one of several black students to help desegregate the school. She also was a majorette and a member of the girls’ basketball team. After graduating from high school, she continued her education at El Reno Community college.

On October 26, 1956, while in El Reno, she united in marriage with Bobby A. Stewart. The couple relocated to Kansas City, Kas. To this union, six children were born: Terry, Cherryl, Bobbie, Victor, Kevin, LeAundra. Many years later, the marriage was dissolved, but they continued to share the love for their children and grandchildren.

Shortly after relocating to Kansas City, Kas., she became a charter member of the Guiding Star Missionary Baptist where she was a faithful member serving in the Mission Department, the Adult Choir, and assisting the church pianist as needed. Guiding Star Missionary Baptist church is still thriving today under the leadership of Pastor David Lee.

In earlier years, Mable worked as a teacher’s aide at Abbott Elementary, Kansas City, Kas., where her children were students at the school. Later in life after raising her children, she continued her education earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) from Donnelly college in Kansas City, Kas. She accepted a position with the Kansas City, Kas., Rehabilitation Services (SRS) as a social worker and retired there after many years of service.

Later in life, Mable became a member of the Kansas City, Kas., Community church under the leadership of her cousin, Bishop Richard Prim. She was recognized as one of the mothers of the church. She later rejoined the Guiding Star Missionary Baptist church where she remained a member until her passing.

Mrs. Stewart was an exceptional mother, raising not only her children, but many others as well. She was affectionately called MawMaw to many that loved and adored her.

She had a kind and giving spirit. Even in her illness, the wellbeing of others was her main concern. She loved to sing. During her illness, she would often sing with her family, pastors, caregivers, and hospice staff. In addition to her legacy of love, she will forever be remembered for her delicious dressing, her creamy oatmeal, and her famous icebox lemon pie. Most importantly, she loved the Lord and demonstrated that in word, deed, and song.

She leaves to cherish her memory her six children: Terry Stewart (Marilyn) of Cedar Hill, Texas, Cherryl Johnson (Robert) of Kansas City, Kas., Bobbie Thomas (Kenneth) of Basehor, Kas., Victor Stewart of Kansas City, Kas., Kevin Stewart (Lalanni) of Kansas City, Kas., LeAundra Boyice (Dionne) of Platte City, Mo.; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at 11 a.m., at the Guiding Star MBC, 3035 N. 27th St., Kansas City, Kas.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.
