MELBURN BOSWELL

Melburn (Mel) DeVan Boswell died on Wednesday July 27, 2022, at Saint Luke’s Hospice center. He was born on May 28, 1963, in Kansas City, Kas., as the youngest child of Clarence R. and Ruth C. Boswell. He was named after his paternal grandfather, Melburn Ransom. He accepted Christ at a young age.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence R. and Ruth C. Boswell; one sister and one brother.

He was an apt student and a quick learner. He attended Quindaro Elementary, Northwest Junior High, Clark Middle school, and graduated in 1981, from Bonner Springs High school.

He was multi-talented in many areas. He played the saxophone in Junior High and High School Band. He competed in many competitions and won many awards for his singing and dancing talents. In high school he decided he wanted to sing in the Choir and participated in theatrical music and plays, there he found his love. Thanks to his father, he was brought up with the teaching to never depend on one profession and also have a hustle on the side.

Boswell was a handyman, he worked his first job at Miller Hardware on 47th State Ave., and at Crown Center in an Ice Cream/Yogurt Store. He landed an acting job performing in several plays at Crown Center. He worked a Landscaping business with his best friend.

He was a born entrepreneur and did everything but build a house. He was selfemployed most of his later years of his life until his health started failing him.

He could put anything together and take it apart. He did sales, carpentry, pools, landscaping, decks, Christmas lights, etc. Everything was a project to him. Most of all he loved traveling, but cooking and baking was his specialty. He had a very creative mind, always finding ways to put a twist on recipes. He loved to serve it up when family came in town. He had a big heart and shared his talents with everyone.

He studied music and theatre in college, performance being his concentration, and afterwards he studied ballet, tap, jazz, and acrobatics, for five years as well. He performed in various Operas, Ballets and various dance and theatre performances at Avila college, Missouri Rep, Starlight, Municipal Auditorium, The Coterie Children’s Theatre, and American Heartland Theatre just to name a few, plus he did various commercials, and visitor videos...which have played for years at most local hotels in Kansas City, but he loved every minute of it. He reevaluated his life and decided to see what was out there for him and found that he loved to travel, and he tried to visit a new place each year, so his favorite places to visit were Puerto Vallarta, Fort Lauderdale, New York, and of course California and probably in that order.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his sister, Cheree (Anthony Sr.) Lee; brother, Clarence Boswell Jr., nieces and nephews whom he cherished like his own children, Prentice (PJ) Watson, Cristal (Robert) Terry, Alicia McKoy, Anthony Jr. (Anna) Lee, Talisa Boswell, and Taylor Graves; two aunts, Joyce Stewart and Florence Boswell; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. at the Chapel Hill cemetery.
