WALTER WRIGHT

Walter Wright was born on September 10, 1942, in Kansas City, Mo., to the late Ned Hayes and Florence Newman. He had six siblings.

His parents, three of his brothers, Eddie Wright, Fred Wright, and Irvin Wright; sister, Valencia Jeanette Hayes all preceded him in death.

On February 6, 1961, Walter and Vernestine Washington united in marriage and to this union three children were born: Conrad Wright Sr., Walter Wright Jr., and Renee Gunn. The marriage ended in 1982. He married Ting Roxas on July 19, 2004.

He professed a belief in God at an early age. He joined the Sunrise Baptist church in Kansas City,

Mo., under the leadership of Reverend S.C. Clopton on January 3, 1954. He was baptized on January 10, 1954. He moved his membership to the Greater Mount Zion Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Reverend Albert Colbert. He was a current member at the Macedonia Baptist church under the leadership of Reverend John Brooks. He served on the usher board until his health failed.

He graduated from Manual High school in 1960. He studied on the associate level, Electronic Maintenance and Repair Technology at Manuel Career Technical center. He owned W & W Maintenance Company, and he worked for Missouri Gas Energy for over 50 years. He was ambitious, even in his youth. His career began at age fourteen. He sold newspapers and cookies. Family and friends nicknamed him “Cookie” as a youngster.

Wright traveled internationally on a regular basis. He visited Israel, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa, Japan, China, the Philippines, Australia, Vietnam, Cuba and many more. He enjoyed helping others in his spare time. He volunteered at hospitals, nursing homes, and food pantries.

To celebrate his homegoing and cherish his memory he leaves: his wife, Ting Roxas of the home; sons, Conrad Wright I, of Raytown, Mo., and Walter Wright II (Tonia) of Southern Missouri; a daughter, Renee Gunn, of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Conrad Wright II, Walter Wright III, and Zoie Seibert; one brother, Phil Hayes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Visitation was held on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral chapel.
