MARGARET BLOCK

Margaret Charlene Webb Block died on Friday, July 29, 2022, in Kansas City, Kas., surrounded by loved ones. She was born on February 8, 1946, to Charles and Martha Lee (Lunsford) Webb, the second of seven children – Charles, Eula, Lawrence, Kevin, Ricardo, Quinton, and Cheryl. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kas., educated in its public school system and a graduate of Sumner High School, class of 1964.

Following high school, she married Adee Block and to this union, three children were born, Deadra, Bryan, and Sheryl. The union was later dissolved.

Ms. Block was a family-oriented, kind, and giving person, with a great sense of humor and a love of storytelling. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and exhibited His teachings, having a forgiving heart and helping others.

She worked for the United States Social Security Administration (SSA) for over 42 years, retiring in 2010. During her career, given her expert knowledge of SSA guidelines and requirements, she was often called upon to handle complex and high-profile cases. Even in retirement, she regularly counseled family members and friends on SSA matters, assisting them in securing the benefits they were entitled.

Also in retirement, she took care of her daughter, Deadra, who suffered from the debilitating effects of multiple sclerosis for many years. Because of the loving support Margaret provided, Deadra was able to be cared for in her home until a few years prior to her death in April 2020; after which, Margaret continued to provide care for Deadra’s daughter, her grandchild, Stephanie.

Mrs. Block enjoyed outings and short road trips with family, watching television, and connecting with people via social media, video, and by phone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Eula, Lawrence, Kevin, Ricardo, and Quinton; her oldest daughter, Deadra Block; and grandson, Stephen Block.

She is survived by her brother, Charles Webb Jr.; and sister. Cheryl Williams; her only son, Bryan (Porcia) Block; youngest daughter, Sheryl (Michael) Pickett; grandchildren, Bryan Block Jr., Autumn (Marvin) Burns, Stephanie Block, Savaughn Pickett, and Alexandria Block; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She loved her family, and she will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at 11 a.m., at the Mrs. J. W. Jones and Sons chapel, 703 North 10th Street, Kansas City, Kas.
