Lula (Pearl) Moran was born on September 29, 1918, to the union of Pearlie (Mace) Pearl and Ollie Emery Pearl, on their farm, close to Waldron, Mo.

She was one of the first students at the original Banneker school in Parkville, Mo. She completed her education at TVS, Topeka Vocational school in Topeka, Kas., along with other siblings. While growing up, she would spend the week at school and return home by train on the weekends. On those weekends they would work on the farm. Lula, along with her twin sister, Lillie, would sell eggs at the City Market in Kansas City, Mo., for five cents per dozen! She graduated and became an excellent seamstress and worked for the Jones Store company for many years in the wedding gowns alterations department.

She grew up during the Great Depression and at the onset of WWII, she and her beau, William (Bill) Moran, married on April 2, 1941. Lula and her husband bought a small house in 1951, at 3027 Askew where she remained for over 60 years until her passing. They had one son, DeWayne Moran. Both DeWayne and Bill, along with all her other siblings preceded her in death.

While growing up, she was a member of the Washington Chapel CME church in Parkville Mo., but in 1937, became a lifelong member of the Saint Stephen’s Baptist church in Kansas City, Mo. She was a faithful member of the Usher Board for many years. She always wore a cross around her neck as a symbol of her faith and love of the Lord.

In 1983, she retired at 65, from the Jones Store company. Although Jones Store had prevailed upon her to stay, acknowledging that she was one of the best seamstresses they’d ever had in their employ, Lula decided to take up her full time hobby, buying and selling antiques at the Waldo Antiques Market.

She was an adamant fan of two television shows, Wheel of Fortune and WWE Wrestling. Up until a few months ago she could be heard cheering for her favorite WWE athletes or shouting out answers to puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. She remained incredibly sharp up until her passing.

As stated, she was preceded in death by her husband and son, but also by her parents and all her siblings; Amos, Oledia, Dorothy, Lloyd, Dora, Lillie and Douglas.

Left to mourn her passing are her nephews, Erskine Faulkner, Douglas Pearl Jr., Michael Pearl (Margarita) and Maurice Pearl (Grace); nieces, Frances Ann Jackson Griffin, Joan Pearl Hurley (Granville), Judy Pearl Lee (Larry), Patricia Pearl, Marie Shell (Royce) and Twyla Mallory; and a myriad of other nieces and nephews.
