Mary O. Burks, 85, of Kansas City, Mo., died on July 23, 2022, in Phoenix, Ariz., surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on August 26, 1936, in Osceola, Mo., to Bethene and Arthur Carroll. She received Christ in her early years; in her later years she attended the Morning Star church where her friend Reverend Miles is pastor. She received her education in the Kansas City, Mo., School district. She was joined in marriage to Bennie R. Burks Sr., and to their union they had seven children. She was employed at Peterson Manufactory Inc., until her retirement in 1999, after 37 years. She was a loving and caring wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Her memory will linger on, She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Rufus Burks Sr.; her parents, Bethene and Arthur Carroll; her children, Chriss Valerie Rucker and Clemente Luther Burks; her siblings, Dollie Joyce and Paul Eugene Carroll; and her grandson, Bennie Ray Rucker. She left to cherish her memory her brother, Elmer Carroll; her daughters, Arthur (Eddie) Gammon, Yolanda (Kenneth) Brown and April Burks; her sons, Mark (Donna) Burks and Bennie (Karen King) Burks Jr.; her 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and host of cousins, family and friends. Funeral Service was held on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist church. Interment, Friday, Aug. 5, 2022, at 9 a.m., at the Leavenworth National cemetery, Leavenworth, Kas. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral chapel.
