He leaves in Gods loving care his daughters, Rechieta Booker, Lorraine Booker Wiley (Adrian), Hannah Wood, Ursula Hurt, Dorothy, Alice and Alison Locks; and a son, Robert Woodson; nine grandchildren, Ricky Booker, Anastasia Roberson, Malachi Williams, Ja’Vionah Tucker, Qua’vion Tucker, Caleesia Booker, De’Asia Booker, De’Ron Dixon and Maria Locks; one uncle, Spencer Taylor; four sisters, Gladys Collins, Joyce Pearson, Betty Booker and Shirley Harbor;. three brothers, Leroy Booker, Micah Booker and Calvin Booker Jr.; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral chapel.

Interment, cemetery.

Annie “Faye” Shephard, of Raytown, Mo., died in her home surrounded by family and loved ones on March 8, 2023.

She was born at KU Medical center in Kansas City, Kas., on March 23, 1951, to Diamond Warren Jr., and Marcelete (Allen) Warren. She was the fourth of 11 children.

She attended Kansas City Public schools and later transitioned to MDTA Training center where she learned a trade to begin a career with Hallmark Cards. Later in life she was employed as a Bus Monitor for Raytown School district where she retired.

While at Hallmark Cards, she met the love of her life, Michael W. Shephard. The two remained married for 38 years until his death in 2011.

Mrs. Shephard was known for having a kind, sweet and gentle spirit. She was known for being quiet and soft-spoken but could use the tongue if provoked to do so. She enjoyed singing and lit up when hearing her favorite Motown songs of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Smokie Robinson, Aretha Franklin, and Glady’s Knight were a few of her favorite artists. She also enjoyed reading the Bible and listening to gospel music and particularly Kirk Franklin.

As the oldest daughter, she was considered the “maître d” of the family when Momma Marcelete worked at nights and taught her siblings many things. Faye cherished hanging out with her sisters, Ronica and Kandi. Once a month they hung out for Sister Girl Teas. She loved lottery scratch off tickets, cooking and her macaroni was a staple at family dinners. She was a mother to four adult sons, a sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, co-worker, and friend to many and will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Shephard, her parents, Diamond and “Momma” Marcelete (Allen) Warren, and siblings, Gary Warren, Cynthia Warren, and Melvin “Rickey” Warren.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her sons, Robbie Warren of Kansas City, Mo.; Pastor Miguel Warren, Sr. (Karenina) of Kansas City, Mo.; Marquis Shephard (Tameka) of Dallas, Texas; and Mario Shephard of Raytown, Mo.; her siblings, Diamond Warren of Kansas City, Mo.; Michael Warren (Niecy) of Raytown, Mo.; Ronica Green (John) of Kansas City, Mo.; Pastor Karen “Kandi” Nelson (Pastor Jerry Nelson) of Kansas City, Kas.; Robert “Jeffrey” Warren of Kansas City, Mo.; Eric Warren of California; and Edwin “Monte” Warren of Kansas City, Mo.; her grandchildren, Pastor Miguel Warren Jr., (Sierra) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dominick Warren (Danielle) of Raytown, Mo.; Makayla Robinson of Kansas City, Mo.; Myesha Robinson Shephard of Dallas, Texas; Kacee Ross of Shawnee Mission, Kas.; Ayreana Shephard of Raytown, Mo., and Mason Shephard of Dallas, Texas; five great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, bonus grandchildren, and life-time special friends, Barbara Alexander, Josie Williams, Deborah Walters, Brenda Thomas, Barbara Diaz, Phyllis RayTaylor, and many other friends and loved ones.

Funeral services are Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 3 p.m. at the Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral chapel. Private Disposition. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at the chapel.

In 1969, she became a member of the St. Therese Little Flower Parish. She was strong in her faith and was very active in the church. She continued to be strong in her faith throughout her life.

Mrs. Wood enjoyed cooking, fishing, music, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and going on vacation.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Carl Wood; three of her siblings, sister, Lula Mae Malone and brothers, John D. Malone and Willie Earl Roach; and ex-husband, Floyd Wood Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory, children, Brenda Campbell, Gloria Young (John), Patrick Wood, Jennifer F. Wood, and Tammy Wood (Brannon); her sisters, Emma Andrews, Sadie Brooks, and Berda Warren; and brother, Grant Malone; grandchildren left to cherish her memory; Tiffany Campbell, Dominick Young, Nikolas Young, John Young, Carl Edward Stanley, and Tanya Godbold (Marcus); great-grandchildren, Jerani, T’miah, Nevia, Analeese, Elisha, Azylaa, Tamrynn, and Miles; and great-great grandson, William. In addition, she leaves many nieces, nephews, and a host of other devoted family and friends.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the St. Therese Little Flower Parish.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Parish.

B. White Sr. During their union, two children were born. Charles B. White Jr., and Mary D. White both of Kansas City, Mo. She later remarried Richard Smith of Kansas City. Both unions had been set apart and they precede her in death.

She knew Christ at an early age from within her family unit of teachers and preachers. She was a member of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist church, Pastor John Leslie Brooks, Kansas City, Mo.

Throughout her life, she remained a servant leader. Working decades in the healthcare field, she began her career at the Mt. Carmel hospital as a Nurses Aide in Pittsburg, Kas. After relocating to Kansas City, Mo., where she continued down the healthcare and customer service path working at Kansas University Medical hospital until she retired. Even after she retired she continued to serve, working part time as a bus monitor for students with special needs.

Mrs. Smith was the true definition of an independent leader. As one of the oldest siblings it was her passion to take care of her young siblings. And along with it she became an instrumental part in the upbringing of her nieces, nephews and grandchildren, teaching them steadfast morals, responsibilities and core values.

She was an animal lover and especially loved her dogs. Throughout her life she enjoyed companionship from her large and small furry friends, whom she treated like her children.

As the matriarch of the family, she leaves a legacy of four generations. Survivors include her two children, Charles (Margaret) and Mary “Denise”; two granddaughters, MiChea Baytops of Kansas City, Mo., and Monica White of New Orleans, La.; and three grandsons, Michael Nimrod III, of Kansas City, Mo., and Winzlow White (Nicole) and Charles D. White (Kora) both of Arlington, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Myrtle Berger of Michigan City, Ind., Frances Ajani of Joplin, Mo., and Linda Evans of Michigan City, Ind.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Veoma “Bobby” Grant, Leona Berger, Claire Johnson and Phillistine “Tee” Vann; and two brothers, Wilbur “Buddy” Kent Berger Jr. (twin) and Frederick “Fred” Berger.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the Watkins Heritage chapel.

The family will receive all loved ones between 9 to 11 a.m., for a viewing and services will begin promptly at 11 a.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Anthony White of Safe Haven Revival Ministry.

She will be laid to rest at the Mausoleum chapel, Forest Hills cemetery in Kansas City, Mo.

Bernice Elverda Waters, 94, of Kansas City, Mo., died on Friday, March 17, 2023, peacefully in her sleep at her residence. She was born on March 9, 1929, in Calhoun, Okla., to the union of Precious Williams and James Dixon, who both preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were both of her spouses, James “Fuzzy” Waters and Leon Sexton; stepfather, William D. Matthews; sister, Mattie Anderson; daughter, Stephany Massey; and son, Gregory Waters.

After moving to Kansas City, Mo., in 1939, she attended Attucks grade school and RT Coles for middle school. She graduated from Lincoln High school in 1947. She excelled in drama and singing while there and received good grades as well.

She accepted Jesus Christ into her life at an early age. As an adult, she attended the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist church for many years, during which she sang in the choir. Later on, she became a member of Lift Him Up Ministries.

Mrs. Waters worked for Tierra Royal Pottery for 34 years making lamps and vases. She also was the president of the Steelworkers Union for 20 years before retiring in 1985. She also worked at the St. James Pantry and the St. Vincent de Paul Pantry.

She was a constant source of strength, courage and inspiration to everyone who knew her. Her laughter and warm smile always lit up a room. She was always ready to feed you even if you weren’t hungry because that’s how she showed she cared about you. She could also unflinchingly tell you hard truths and snap you back to reality if you needed it or not, but that just made you love her even more. Those were just some of the many traits that made her into the wonderful woman, mother, grandmother and great grandmother that she was.

She is survived by her children, David Waters Sr., (Lorraine) of Sedalia, Mo., Veronica Criss (Wayne) of Raytown, Mo., and Roderick Waters (Charlotte) of Belton, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, David Harrison, Chandra Robinson, Brandon Waters, Joshua Sodie, Leon Waters, Bobbi Jackson, David Waters Jr., Marcus Waters, Delon Gravitt, and Keegan Harrison; 22 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Lift Him Up Ministries, 6940 James A. Reed Rd., Kansas City, Mo.

Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m.

Interment, cemetery.
