LINDA PORTER

Linda Elaine Porter died on March 18, 2023. She was born on February 11, 1946, in Danville, Ill., to the union of Rev. Wendell and Irene Weaver. She was the youngest of three children and the only girl.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was deeply rooted in her faith. She was a devout and faithful servant who enjoyed attending Sunday school and singing in the choir. For more than 40 years, Linda was a dedicated member of the Palestine Missionary Baptist church. During her tenure, she formed many friendships and impacted countless lives.

Ms. Porter graduated from Danville High school and attended Danville Community college. She furthered her education in Kansas City, Mo., receiving a B.A. in Administrative Justice. Taking pride in her job, she dedicated the last 29 years to the Circuit Court. She was an advocate for abused and neglected children in the Court System, serving as a Child Advocate Specialist in the Office of the Guardian ad Litem. This was truly a God given mission for her.

Her greatest joy was visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren in Texas. She was the epitome of a loving grandmother. She never missed an opportunity to celebrate a grandchild’s birthday or special occasion. Always providing much fun and laughter, she will forever be known as the grandmother who played “monster” / “Gmouse” and enjoyed it as much as the kids!

She leaves to cherish her memories; sons, Kevin Porter (Michelle) and Jason Porter (Makesha)) of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren, Alexander, Ja’Reece, Aliza, Janae, Nakerea, Zaria, and Johran; two great grandchildren, Ayden and Lamonte; two furry babies, Chloe and Wesley; brother, Darrell Weaver (Dorothy); and a host of family and friends.

Although Linda will be missed dearly, her legacy of kindness and gratitude will live on within her family.

Services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 10 a.m., at Chamberland Funerals and Cremations, 333 West Avenue D., Garland, Texas. The services will be livestreamed.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Interment, Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas.

Helen Camille Akers Williams died on February 28, 2023, in Peoria, Ariz. She was born in Slater, Mo., to Walter Edgar Akers Sr., and Edna Yvonne Ford Akers.

The family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she graduated from Lincoln High school in 1957, two years ahead of her class. In Kansas City, Mo., she worked for Ford Motor Co., Standard Oil, Santa Fe Railroad and worked as a Realtor. After moving to Phoenix, Ariz., Helen worked for U-Haul International Corporate Office while obtaining her real estate license.

She loved “Island Life” and briefly lived in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Later moving to San Antonio, she dreamed of going back to school. She accomplished her goal by attending St. Philips college almost 40 years later by earning her degree in Culinary Arts in 1999. She decided to take her culinary skills and return to Arizona to be with her family. She retired from Discover Financial in Phoenix, Ariz.

She enjoyed attending Palmcroft church, where she currently was a member. When she was no longer able to attend in person, she looked forward to visits from her friends from Palmcroft and also from her former church home, the Antioch Missionary Baptist church.

Ms. Williams loved swimming and aquatic classes. She enjoyed traveling, being on a beach, cooking, baking, bowling, fishing, card games, puzzles, volunteering with her church and providing care to seniors in need. She was a devoted Mom to her only child, Zina. She was a loving, warm and protective mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. Family and friends meant the world to Helen, and her fun loving spirit will be missed dearly.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; baby sister, Edna Viola Akers; eldest sister, Barbara Akers Stewart; and younger brother, Walter Edgar Akers Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Zina Yvonne (Kurt) Sheppard; granddaughter, Kaleena Yvonne Sheppard; brother, Alan Darryl (Madelyn) Akers; nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and a host of friends.

A Memorial Service will be held locally on March 31, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the PowerShift Worship center, 6108 Blue Ridge Blvd. (Raytown Christian Church building); Raytown, Mo.
