NELLIE ROBERTS

Matriarch Nellie J. (GG) Roberts of Kansas City, Mo., died on April 13, 2023, at Truman Lakewood. She was born in Slick, Okla., on October 18, 1936, to the parents of Elijah Footes and Louisa Armstrong. She moved to Kansas City, Mo., at the age of seven years old there she would reside until she was called home.

She was a very sweet lovable mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother that never met a stranger and would open her home up to anyone that needed a place to live or a warm meal. She loved to travel with family and friends. But what brought the most joy to her life was being surrounded by family, having a great time eating good food with good laughs.

Her employment included Rosetta House of Charm, Consolidated Cab Stand, Driver for Western Electric, Lovie McDonalds Hair salon, Bus driver for Manuel High School Cheerleaders and 37 beautiful years at the Swope Parkway Health center as a Receptionist then Van Driver becoming a friend, granny to many. After retirement she became a Foster Grandparent.

“Grandma Nellie”, as she was affectionately known by all the children she mentored and tutored through the Foster Grandparent program. Grandma Nellie was a dedicated Foster Grandparent for over five years. She worked with children who had been identified as having special or exceptional needs. Her students always looked forward to seeing Grandma Nellie walking through the classroom doors, week after week. She will be missed by her students, other Foster Grandparents.

So many of us have reunited, both sets of my parents, son: Clarence Chaney III, stepson Jimmie Turner sisters: Leanna Jones, Mayola Jackson, Brenda Rucker, Ronita Williams, and Edwina Cann; brothers: Billie Roundtree, Ronnie Williams. great- grandchildren Taurean Stephens, Marlawn Chaney and Rontez Stephens and Sterling Gates Chaney.

Leaving behind four generations, two daughters, Shirl Fuller, Vonda Chaney Logan (Stephen); three sons, William Chaney Jr. (Linda), Vernon Glover, Eric Glover; stepchildren, James Cephus and Juanita Turner including honorary family, Lillian A. Spinks (aunt Ann), Gilda Cage, of Kansas City, Mo., Bishop Lawrence E. Williams Jr., (Thelma) of Washington, Anita Rucker – Burns, of Des Moines, Iowa; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces. great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews. A very special sister-in-love, Joyce Law.

Her name will always be placed in hearts by the smile and impression she left unto others. She will be forever G-G, Gangsters Granny, Queen of Camp Norton, and Lady J.

Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 12 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship church, 4509 Troost, Kansas City. Mo. Pastor, Maurice Gadson.
