Lillie McClendon died on April 18, 2023, at the home.

Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Watkins Heritage chapel.

Interment, Leavenworth National cemetery, Leavenworth, Kas.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the chapel.

Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral chapel

to see her mother and her other brothers and sisters.

She never did any wrong to anyone. She was the nicest person you could ever meet. She had a beautiful smile that all races of people gravitated to her.

She had accepted Christ and was able to attend church, Easter Sunday, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Mike Murphy, Benard Murphy and Eddie Wright Jr., and husband, Sammy Bland.

She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Deborah Cubit; sons: Darrell Cubit (Tracy) and Wayne Cubit (Bridgette); sisters: Aritha Cunningham (Chuck), Dorothy Shelby, Barbara Roberts, Joyce Murphy (Frank), Sandy Wright, Vernetta Perkins (Jamel); brothers: Tony Murphy and Leon Murphy; along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the Watkins Heritage chapel.

Interment, Forest Hill cemetery.

Service conducted by Watkins Heritage chapel. he was truly a Godfearing man, he was a great husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he was loved by his family, his church family, and his friends. He loved to travel and enjoyed fishing with his late mother-in-law, Ethel Winston. Deacon Eddie Brewer will be truly missed.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Helen J. Brewer; three daughters, Carla (Roderick) Perkins of Lee Summit, Mo.; Lisa (Andre) Medina of Overland Park, Kas.; and Yvonne Bailey of Grandview, Mo.; two sons, Kenneth Brewer, and Joseph Brewer of Kansas City, Mo., one brother, James (Lubertha) Brewer, two sisters, Florine Harris, and Dorothy McDaniel, all of Houston, Texas, 23 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the Emanuel Baptist church.

Interment, Leavenworth National cemetery, Leavenworth, Kas.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Throughout his life, he was blessed with a large and loving family. He loved children. He and Viris had eight children and together fostered more than 130 children in the Kansas City area. He was a member of the Foster Grandparent Program and was an adoptive parent to many.

Bishop Brooks never met a stranger. He took great pleasure in meeting new people and sharing his wisdom and knowledge. He was a dedicated volunteer at many schools and local events and was a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration to his community.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Viris; daughters, Nova, Marica, and Eleanor; and sons, Everton, Wayne, and Wishart “Max”.

He leaves to mourn his sister, Pearline “Zena” McKenzie; and brother, Levi Brooks; his daughters, Ruth (Ron) Craig, Carol Brooks, and Angela Brooks;, and sons, Pastor Frederick Samuels (Conceita), Andrew (Mistah) Brooks, Kenny Brooks; as well as a host of previous foster children, 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and eight great-greatgrandchildren, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Bishop Brooks will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to inspire generations to come.

Service will be on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2 p.m. at the St. Luke COGIC, 3100 E. 31st., Kansas City, Mo.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.

Interment, Content, Jamaica WI.
